Charles Robinson is a life-long North Carolinian, currently living in his hometown of Troy in the Uwharrie Mountain region.
From the artist: “While I enjoyed drawing and participating in my county’s “Arts Festival” as a young child, it wasn’t until my late 40s that I developed a real interest in art. I began painting with acrylics in a realistic style, but admired Impressionism and the look of oils. I was blessed to cross paths with Ruth Cox and, later, Kyle Buckland. Thanks to their teaching and encouragement, along with some self-study, I now have a love for the challenge of painting in oils.”
“I cannot specifically describe my painting style. I do favor more impressionistic work and I admire the Barbizon and Hudson River traditions. Some hints of those occasionally appear in my work. My wish is to evoke a feeling by romanticizing a scene in a painterly way.”
Robinson is a 1987 graduate of Campbell University (BBA). In 2015 he designed North Carolina’s “First in Freedom” license plate.
